Martial arts movie hero Scott Adkins (“John Wick: Chapter 4,” “Undisputed 4: Boyka”) and Oscar-nominated actor Djimon Hounsou (“Gladiator,” “Blood Diamond”) are teaming for upcoming action-thriller “One Last Fight.”
The film has been announced by London and Rome-based Brilliant Pictures, which has acquired worldwide sales rights and will be launching the project at the European Film Market in Berlin.
“One Last Fight” follows British ex-Muay Thai champion turned instructor Marcus (Adkins) and his wife Ammara, who are running a training camp in Bangkok. While mourning the loss of their child, Marcus discovers that Ammara’s younger brother Chet, a promising Muay Thai boxer, owes money to a local crime boss — forcing him to participate in a series of brutal underground fights orchestrated by charismatic Nigerian gangster Tiga (Hounsou). As Marcus tries to help Chet get out of trouble, he is coerced by Tiga into replacing Chet in the illegal arena, plunging him and his family into a dark world of visceral violence with much more at stake than he’d ever imagined.
The film is being directed by Isaac Florentine (“Acts of Vengeance,” “Undisputed 2”) from a screenplay by Karim Chériguène and Yvan Gauthier. Producers are Rafael Primorac (“Game of Death,” “The Perfect Weapon”) and Yvan Gauthier (“I Am Wrath,” “The Poison Rose”), while executive producers include Brilliant Pictures’ Sean O’Kelly (“Deep Fear,” “Damascus Cover”) and Marc Bikindou (“Black Dahlia,” “Deception”).
“We are excited to be working with Scott and Djimon alongside Isaac — arguably world-leaders in this genre,” said Primorac. “Thailand provides an authentic backdrop and, with Isaac at the helm, this is set to be a slick, edge-of-your-seat action thriller that will satisfy audiences worldwide.”
Added Gauthier: “Scott, Djimon and Isaac are the perfect combo to bring our ambitious story to life. The goal here is to elevate the martial arts movie genre and bring a strong and emotional human aspect to it by touching topics that resonate with a very large audience.”
“One Last Fight” is set to commence principal photographer in Thailand this May.
“The moment I read this script I knew it would feed perfectly into the genre projects the market is looking for right now,” said Bikindou. “We are thrilled to be working alongside such a talented team and excited to bring this to market.”
