Boman Irani’s movie “The Mehta Boys” will have its Asian premiere this weekend at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, marking one of the few places it will have a theatrical screening before heading to streaming on Amazon’s Prime Video.
The company will claim other prominent positions during the festival with the world premiere of its unscripted Telugu-language series “The Rana Daggubati Show,” a how-to panel discussion on Nov. 22, and a musical performance at the festival’s closing ceremony on Nov. 28.
Irani’s feature directing debut, “The Mehta Boys” is an emotionally charged drama exploring the complex and turbulent bond between a father and son who are compelled to spend 48 hours together under challenging circumstances. It debuted at the Chicago South Asian Film Festival in September and there won the best feature film award.
The IFFI screening will be attended by Irani and cast including Avinash Tiwary, Shreya Chaudhry and Puja Sarup, writer Alexander Dinelaris Jr. and producer Danesh Irani.
Created and hosted by South India superstar Rana Daggubati (“Bahubaali,” “Vettaiyan”) and executive produced by him under the banner of Spirit Media, the eight-episode “The Rana Daggubati Show” is billed as a refreshing take on the celebrity talk show.
The show will screen at the festival on Thursday before shifting to Prime Video on Nov. 23, where future episodes will upload every Saturday. The show’s anticipated guests include: line-up of guests, including Dulquer Salmaan, Naga Chaitanya Akkineni, Nani, Rishab Shetty, Siddhu Jonnalagadda with Sreeleela, S.S. Rajamouli with Ram Gopal Varma.
Musicians Nikita Gandhi, Digvijay Singh Pariyar and Mame Khan and others from Prime Video’s “Bandish Bandits” Season 2 will put on a Jugalbandi performance at the IFFI closing ceremony.
The event will also be attended by the show’s lead cast Ritwik Bhowmik and Shreya Chaudhary, producer Amritpal Singh Bindra, director Anand Tiwari and Nikhil Madhok, head of originals, Prime Video, India. The live music performance will be followed by a show reveal.
Shilangi Mukherji, director & head – SVOD, Prime Video, India will address the audience at a special event at IFFI, while Manish Menghani, director – content licensing, will be part of a Friday panel Greenlighting Your Project: Strategies for Film & Series Creators.
Other panelists include Jyoti Deshpande, CEO of Viacom18, filmmaker Nikhil Advani, and Shobha Sant, CEO of Creativeland Studios, with filmmaker Richie Mehta moderating the discussion.
