Netflix has unveiled a five-series Chinese-language lineup for 2025, headlined by major stars and spanning genres from supernatural thrillers to romantic comedies.
International film stars Shu Qi and Lee Sinje will make their Netflix series debut in “The Resurrected” (Q3), a dark thriller following two desperate mothers who resurrect a deceased scam ring leader to avenge their kidnapped daughters.
Another high-profile project is “Had I Not Seen the Sun” (Q4), starring Tseng Jing-hua and Moon Lee. From the creators of “Someday or One Day,” this two-part supernatural mystery follows a documentarian whose prison interview with a serial killer leads to strange dreams and ghostly encounters with a high school student’s spirit.
Currently streaming is the period drama “Perfect Match,” featuring Lu Yu-xiao and Wang Xing-yue. Set in the Northern Song Dynasty, the series chronicles Madam Li’s family as they establish a tea house while seeking suitable marriages for her daughters.
For Valentine’s Day 2025, Netflix will premiere the romantic comedy “I Am Married…But!” starring Alice Ko and Jasper Liu. The contemporary series explores the complexities of modern marriage through I-ling, a woman contemplating divorce while living with her in-laws, who finds herself unexpectedly drawn to a connection made through a dating app.
Rounding out the slate is “Forget You Not” (Q2), marking award-winning multi-hyphenate Rene Liu’s first series as creator. The show stars Hsieh Ying-xuan, with a special appearance by Wallace Huo, in a story about an aspiring stand-up comedian juggling her career ambitions with divorce and caring for an aging father.
Minyoung Kim, VP of Netflix content (APAC, ex-India), underlined the company’s commitment to Chinese-language programming, noting a “significant fan base that really loves Chinese language content.” The slate represents Netflix’s broader strategy of developing local content with universal appeal, supported by its network of offices across nine countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
