Italian director Silvio Soldini’s “The Tasters,” which reconstructs the true story of the women conscripted to be Adolf Hitler’s food tasters, is scoring a slew of sales at the European Film Market.
Vision Distribution has closed deals for dozens of territories on the German-language drama starring Germany’s Elisa Schlott (“Das Boot” TV series), Max Riemelt (“Sleeping Dog”) and Alma Hasun (“Corsage”), which will open Italy’s Bari International Festival next month.
“The Tasters,” which is based on bestselling book “At the Wolf’s Table” by Italian author Rosella Postorino, has been picked up by CDI for most Latin American territories and by Pandora for Brazil. Stars media has snapped up the drama for all former Yugoslavian territories. “Tasters” has also gone to Spain (Mirror Audiovisual), Portugal (Films4you), Bulgaria (Beta Films), Israel (New Cinema) and Greece (Rosebud).
“The Tasters” is produced by Milan-based Lionello Cerri’s Lumière & Co. in co-production with Belgium’s Tarantula and Switzerland’s Tellfilm and IDM Film Commission.
Vision Distribution managing director Massimo Proietti noted to Variety that “The Tasters” is “a film produced in Italy and made by an Italian director in German language with an international cast,” which makes it “very rare and interesting.” He pointed out that the film will be dubbed into Italian for its theatrical release in Italy where it will go out via Vision in March.
“A pillar of our philosophy is developing projects that have international appeal from their inception,” Proietti added.
At the EFM, Vision Distribution is launching sales on Isabel Coixet’s next announced film, “Tre Ciotole,” starring Alba Rohrwacher and Elio Germano; sexy noir “The Eyes of Others,” starring Jasmine Trinca and Filippo Timi, directed by Andrea De Sica (“Baby”); and Nicolangelo Gelormini’s “Gioia,” the true tale of a turbulent teacher-student love affair starring Valeria Golino and Saul Nanni (“Love & Gelato”). Other titles on their lineup include Ferzan Özpetek’s female-centric ensemble film “Diamonds,” which is Italy’s first standout title of 2025, and hit Italian comedy “I Am the End of the World.”
