Stephen Amell Stars in Spinoff as Harvey Spencer Pal

NBCUniversal is suiting up for action. The company has released the first trailer for the “Suits” spinoff “Suits: LA,” led by Stephen Amell as Ted Black, a former federal prosecutor from New York who has reinvented himself and is representing powerful clients in Los Angeles. The new series premieres on NBC on Feb. 23.

The official description of the pilot reads: “His firm is at a crisis point, and in order to survive he must embrace a role he held in contempt his entire career. Ted is surrounded by a stellar group of characters who test their loyalties to both Ted and each other while they can’t help but mix their personal and professional lives. All of this is going on while events from years ago slowly unravel that led Ted to leave behind everything and everyone he loved.”

Other cast members include Josh McDermitt, Lex Scott Davis, Troy Winbush, Victoria Justice and original star Gabriel Macht back as Harvey Spencer.

“Suits” creator Aaron Korsh serves as writer and executive producer alongside David Bartis and Dog Liman for Hypnotic, and Gene Klein. Victoria Mahoney directs the pilot and executive produces. UCP, which produced the original series, serves as the studio.

Beatrice Springborn, president of Universal International Studios and UCP, previously confirmed that the show takes place in the same universe as the original.

The original “Suits” series ran for nine seasons from 2011-2019 on USA Network, but regained popularity after the first eight seasons were added to Netflix last year. The series topped the Netflix charts for weeks after it began streaming on the platform and surpassed 45 billion minutes on Netflix and Peacock combined.
