Aaron Carter‘s tragic story is being examined in a new documentary streaming on Paramount+ this week.
“The Carters” is a two-part documentary that chronicles the late singer’s rapid rise to fame, along with the impact it had on Carter, brother Nick Carter (from The Backstreet Boys) and their formerly close-knit family. Told from the perspective of the singers’ sister, Angel, the docuseries “unpacks the complicated family dynamics that led to the untimely deaths of three of the original five Carter kids as well as their father,” per a press release.

What Is “The Carters” Documentary About?
According to a press release, “The Carters” is a two-part documentary that takes a “deeply personal look at the extreme highs and tragic lows of a family propelled into the spotlight by the meteoric rise of the musical careers of two brothers, Nick Carter (Backstreet Boys) and the late pop sensation Aaron Carter.”
Directed by Soleil Moon Frye, the doc features narration and interviews from Angel Conrad (nee Carter) along with interviews with family friends Melissa Joan Hart and Scout Willis, among others. In addition to the new interview clips, the series will feature never-before-seen home videos that “detail the brothers’ rise to fame and the devastating toll it took on their family.”
Aaron Carter was a child star who burst onto the scene in 1997 at the age of ten. Following in his big brother Nick’s footsteps, Aaron became a global pop sensation though he publicly struggled with addiction issues in his adulthood. As the documentary notes state, “Nick and Aaron seemed to have it all, but behind their remarkable gifts was a family dealing with mental health struggles, drug addiction, and heartbreaking neglect.”
Aaron Carter ultimately passed away at his home in California in November 2022. He was 34.
