The New, More Sophisticated RIU Palace La Mola Opens; Now A Four-Star Superior Hotel

The Hotel Riu La Mola, located on the island of Formentera, opens its doors after undergoing a complete transformation to become part of the Riu Palace line, the hotel chain’s top-of-the-line option, perfectly embodying the exclusive charm of the Mediterranean island. In addition, the hotel, which boasts an exceptional location next to Migjorn beach, has been upgraded from a four-star to a four-star superior hotel.

The project marks a milestone for RIU as Luis and Roberto Riu Rodríguez, the sons of Luis Riu Güell and fourth generation family members, were given full control of the refurbishment, a first for the brothers. They were entrusted with all the decisions related to the hotel’s design, equipment and services as well as performing a complete style overhaul.

The hotel is the same size as it was before, but after the renovation its spaces have been optimised and a unique atmosphere has been created. The hotel’s new décor incorporates details that enhance its Mediterranean roots and lend it an exclusive touch that is very much in line with the style of the island of Formentera. During the construction and interior design of the hotel, the focus was always to offer an unparalleled experience, combining functionality, sophistication and aesthetics.

The improvements to the hotel include the expansion of the lobby, which is now bigger in terms of both space and height, offering guests a striking first impression thanks to its bright and thoughtful design. Another aspect to highlight is the extension of the terrace. There you can enjoy panoramic views in its warm and welcoming spaces and make use of a new outdoor area for performances.

The hotel still has 345 rooms, but they all have a new look and have become more spacious in some cases. But, above all, they offer guests comfort and sophisticated design. Likewise, the hotel now boasts more suites: there are now a total of eight with spectacular views of the Mediterranean.

And, of course, the range of cuisine on offer, which was one of the most valued aspects of the hotel by guests before the renovation, has also been improved and expanded with the aim of continuing to be one of the highlights of the new Riu Palace La Mola. A new “à la carte” restaurant has been added, making a total of three restaurants: “Sargantana”, the main restaurant, “Krystal”, the gourmet à la carte restaurant, and “Ilios”, the hotel’s snack restaurant by the sea.

In addition, the hotel’s fitness centre and SPA have also been given a facelift, as has the solarium, which now offers Balinese beds. If that wasn’t enough, the refurbished Riu Palace La Mola now has a new RIU Land Kid’s club with a children’s swimming pool, making a total of four pools, three for adults and one for children.

The Hotel Riu Palace La Mola, which has been completely renovated for the first time since the chain acquired it in 1973, has recently been awarded the Re Think Hotel Award for its sustainable approach to its renovation. This includes improvements such as the installation of solar panels for electrical self-sufficiency, the purchase of much more efficient equipment and machinery, air conditioning with a geothermal heat pump, and many more sustainable adjustments such as implementing water-saving and waste-reduction measures.
