Tips for beginner skiers
Skiing for the first time can feel both daunting and exhilarating. With these following tips, you can make your first time skiing both a memorable and exciting experience.
1. Taking lessons
For beginners, an essential part of beginning your new sport is paying for a few lessons in which certified instructors will help and guide you through the basics of skiing, such as how to start, stop and turn safely. We recommend doing group lessons as you can be amongst those who are at the same level as you, so you can feel as comfortable as possible.
2. Appropriate clothing
The weather conditions whilst skiing can be intense. Therefore, it is essential that you layer your clothing and wear thermals to stay warm. Gloves, a helmet, a coat and boots are all needed to keep you dry, warm and safe. As well as goggles, which are crucial for your vision in differing weather conditions.
3. Start slow
When attempting your first run, we don’t recommend completing a black run as these are for advanced skiers. Instead begin on a green run as they are designed for beginners and they offer gentle slopes where you can practice the basics and build confidence.
The skiing season in the Pyrenees often lasts from December to April, with the best conditions in January and February, just make sure to keep in mind that these resorts are often the busiest at weekends and holidays, so ensure that you plan your getaway accordingly. The majority of these resorts are accessible by car. However, some resorts such as La Molina and Marsella can be reached by trains and buses.
These resorts offer a variety of activities which are accessible to everyone and people of different levels. Whether you are looking for a luxury escape to Baqueira-Beret, a family trip to La Molina or a thrilling night time skiing adventure at Masella, skiing enthusiasts will not be disappointed by the abundance of resorts that are available to enjoy near Barcelona. So, pack your ski boots and warm attire and get ready to enjoy an alpine adventure as you hit the slopes!
