Two Turkish Army helicopters collided midair


Two Turkish Army helicopters collided in midair during a training exercise, causing one to crash, killing six people. 

The crash happened on December 9, 2024, in the Keçiborlu district of Isparta Province, Turkey.  

According to local media outlet Sabah, the accident occurred approximately two kilometers from the Isparta Army Aviation School. The helicopters went down in a field between the school and the Afyonkarahisar highway. 

One of the helicopters, a Bell UH-1 Iroquois, crashed into a field and broke into two, killing all six occupants. Five died instantly at the scene, while one died of his injuries at a hospital, Turkey’s Defense Ministry confirmed. The victims included Brigadier General İsa Baydilli, Army Aviation School Commander.  

The other helicopter, the model of which has not been revealed, managed to land safely about 400 meters away from the crash site. The cause of the collision is still unknown.  

An investigation has been launched into the accident.
