The United Nations in Uganda, under the leadership of the UN Resident Coordinator, stands in full solidarity with the Government and people of Uganda following the confirmation of an Ebola Virus Disease outbreak. We commend the Government of Uganda for its swift response and transparency in managing the crisis. The Government’s proactive information-sharing and decisive action, led by the Ministry of Health, are critical in containing the outbreak and protecting public health.
The UN System has activated a coordinated, systemwide response to support the Government-led efforts in mitigating the impact of the outbreak. Our agencies, including the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the World Food Programme (WFP), and other partners, are mobilizing expertise, resources, and emergency mechanisms to provide immediate technical, logistical, and operational support.
With technical guidance from WHO, efforts are focused on disease surveillance, case detection and management, risk communication and community engagement, infection prevention and control, among other measures to ensure a rapid and effective response.
The UN acknowledges the strength of Uganda’s national and local capacities in fighting Ebola and lauds the Government for its inclusive, and effective leadership. We stress the importance of remaining calm and vigilant, adhering to public health guidelines, and ensuring that daily life and economic activities continue with necessary precautions. Uganda has successfully managed past health emergencies, and with collective action, the country can overcome this challenge once again.
We urge the public to stay vigilant, rely on accurate information from trusted sources—including the Ministry of Health and WHO—and support efforts to combat misinformation. Keeping Uganda open and functioning is vital for all communities, and we encourage everyone to take responsible measures to protect themselves and others while continuing daily activities.
The United Nations remains steadfast in its commitment to standing with Uganda, mobilizing resources, and leveraging global expertise to support an effective and sustained response that prioritizes saving lives and preventing further spread of the disease.
