Japanese Breakfast performed at Coachella last night (Saturday, April 12), where Michelle Zauner and her band shook up their setlist with a special cover of Gorillaz’s 2010 single “On Melancholy Hill.” Joining Zauner and her bandmates for the special rendition of the Plastic Beach hit was Ginger Root, who’s currently opening for them on tour, while Japanese Breakfast touring member Christabel Lin played the song’s earworm riff on electric violin. Find a clip of the cover performance below.
The rest of Japanese Breakfast’s Coachella set pulled tracks from their catalog and the new album For Melancholy Brunettes (& Sad Women), including “Orlando in Love,” “Picture Window,” “Mega Circuit,” and “Honey Water.” Zauner and her collaborators are currently on tour in support of that record, and will stay on the road performing live on through the autumn.
