Today on 25 April, the World Health Organization (WHO) in Angola co-led an important prioritization meeting for the single-country Pandemic Fund proposal, in partnership with the Ministry of Health. The session brought together a broad group of national and international stakeholders, including the Ministry of Environment, the World Bank, UNICEF, FAO, the Red Cross, UNDP, the Private University of Angola, and Population Services International.
The meeting aimed to support Angola’s proposal to the Pandemic Fund by identifying key investment areas to strengthen health emergency preparedness. Discussions were structured around the three priority pillars outlined by the Fund: early warning systems and disease surveillance, laboratory systems, and workforce strengthening. Using the Joint External Evaluation (JEE) as a guiding framework, participants examined multiple technical areas such as public and animal health emergency management, laboratory quality systems, emergency logistics and supply chain management, risk communication capacities, and antimicrobial resistance.
This joint effort reflects Angola’s commitment to building a more coordinated, effective, and resilient response system for public health threats. It also aligns with the objectives of the Pandemic Fund’s Third Call for Proposals, which was launched in December 2024 with US$500 million available to support high-impact initiatives. Proposals are expected to integrate cross-cutting themes including One Health, community engagement, gender equality, and health equity.
