Zack Sharf has been named managing editor of Variety.com. He previously served as digital news director since 2022. Sharf is tasked with driving digital growth through coverage of breaking news, trending stories and in showcasing Variety‘s array of editorial content across online and social platforms.
“In the last three years, Zack has helped reinvent Variety’s award-winning digital coverage,” said Variety co-editors in chief Ramin Setoodeh and Cynthia Littleton. “He is one of the most prolific and hardworking journalists writing about entertainment. He has changed the way our newsroom covers awards season, film festivals and breaking news; and he’s spearheaded our online rollout for such key magazine franchises as Actors on Actors and Hitmakers. This promotion is so well-deserved.”
Sharf reports to Setoodeh and works closely with William Earl, editor of Variety.com.
“Zack has an unwavering dedication to both journalism and the entertainment industry, as well as an innate understanding of the Variety reader,” Earl said. “He’s proven himself a true leader in the newsroom, always offering to help others succeed as well as put out vital work himself. This promotion will only help grow our editorial, sharpen our strategy and benefit our audience.”
Sharf joined Variety in January 2022 as digital news director after seven years at IndieWire, where he was promoted into various roles such as social media editor, news writer and news director.
